Imagine trying to study and only being able to focus on the pangs of hunger. Sadly, one in seven children in Colorado don’t have to imagine. They live in food insecure households, and sometimes worry where they’ll find there next meal. Food Bank of the Rockies shares almost half the food we distribute with children. It’s our mission to ensure children in our community have the nourishment needed to grow and learn. Our community partnerships are critical to successfully reaching kids across the 30 Colorado counties we serve.
We’re excited to share the unveiling of the new Meal Monkey Food Truck. Through a joint effort with our partner agency, Lift-Up, based in Rifle, and School District RE-2, Food Bank of the Rockies is able to provide fresh meals on Fridays, a day when there is no school in the district. The truck will serve meals not only during the school year, but also during the summer months when school is not in session. The truck will visit five sites throughout Rifle.
Western Colorado Community Foundation and Garfield County Healthy Communities helped fund the project.
We have already begun conversation with district RE-16 in Parachute about expanding Meal Monkey to Mondays, which is that district’s day without school.
A huge thank you goes out to all our community partners who help us make the Meal Monkey Truck possible!
