For the 12th straight year, Walmart and Sam’s Club locations nationwide, including those in Colorado, are launching the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. Campaign. The goal: to inspire customers to take action and help provide access to the nourishing food people need to thrive. Here’s how it works:
How to Participate
From now through March 31, shoppers can participate through three easy ways:
- Donate at the checkout: Customers can donate at the register or round up their purchases at Walmart.com and the Walmart app.
- Purchase participating products: A portion of proceeds from specially marked products* purchased in-store or online at Walmart.com or SamsClub.com will be donated to the campaign.
- Make a direct donation online: Give directly to the campaign at either feedingamerica.org/walmart or feedingamerica.org/samsclub
Since its launch in 2014, Fight Hunger. Spark Change. has generated more than $206 million for the Feeding America® network of local food banks. As a partner food bank of Feeding America, donations made at Walmart and Sam’s Club locations within Food Bank of the Rockies’ service area will directly benefit our work, ensuring our community members continue to receive vital food and resources. Last year, local shoppers helped raise enough funds for Food Bank of the Rockies to provide nearly 500,000 nourishing meals to individuals and families in need.
Making an Impact Through Funds and Food
“Our mission is centered around igniting the power of community, and our tremendous partnership with Walmart and Sam’s Club makes that a reality. Beyond their fundraising efforts, they are also our biggest Food Fescue partner,” said Mark Weslar, Food Sourcing Director for Food Bank of the Rockies. “Annually, they donate over 11.7 million pounds of food for our service area, the equivalent of 9.7 million meals that we’re able to capture and re-distribute back into our communities.”
The Food Rescue Program works in a couple of ways: Hunger Relief Partners of Food Bank of the Rockies are able to pick up surplus food directly from retail locations, or food donations are trucked to one of Food Bank of the Rockies’ distribution centers or picked up by a Food Rescue Program driver.
Weslar emphasized the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign comes at an important time, as food insecurity has reached a 10-year high in our region. Currently, Food Bank of the Rockies distributes enough food to provide 185,000 meals daily.
“Every donation — big or small — makes a difference. Together, we can ensure no one has to worry about where their next meal is coming from,” said Weslar.
Over the last decade, the campaign has helped secure millions of nourishing meals for Coloradans experiencing hunger.
