Food Bank of the Rockies’ new distribution center on the Western Slope is now open. The Etkin Family Distribution Center, located in Grand Junction, offers greater storage capacity compared to the Food Bank’s previous distribution center in Palisade, allowing for both an increase in volume and efficiency for food distribution to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
The Food Bank is now also able to offer a greater variety of food, particularly fresh produce, thanks to a cooler room that is four-times larger than the Food Bank’s previous cooler room. Additionally, the new distribution center has the capacity to host 75 volunteers at one time, up from 10, which will greatly increase efficiency.
With the new distribution center, Food Bank of the Rockies’ goal is to distribute 16.8 million pounds of food annually across the Western Slope by 2027, a 63% increase from current levels. This will happen in part by partnering with more Hunger Relief Partners to feed more neighbors across our service area. Space in the new building is also shared with Meals on Wheels Mesa County. Food Bank of the Rockies and Meals on Wheels Mesa County share the same vision – ending food insecurity.
