What a fun day! Kids from nearby Aurora neighborhoods and their families came to Hinkley High School to enjoy music, food samples, games, learning activities, a mini mobile pantry and a meal – maybe two!
The event kicked off the Summer Food Service (SFSP) meal program, available across the state. Food Bank of the Rockies and Aurora Public Schools are among several providers of summer meals across Colorado through this USDA program. We wanted to make sure families knew about this important resource. More on where to locate summer meals can be found here.
In the morning, kids received SFSP breakfast packs from Food Bank of the Rockies, made possible with a generous grant from the Albertsons Companies Foundation. At lunchtime, Aurora Public Schools provided an SFSP lunch!
This event was possible because of an outstanding team effort from: Aurora Fire Rescue, Aurora Police Department, Falck Ambulance, Aurora Public Library – Info2Go, Aurora Public Schools, Bright By Three, Cooking Matters, Delta Dental, Froozer Frozen Treats, Martinez Mobile Music, Safe Kids, Target – Aurora Town Center, The Children’s Museum, Tri-County Health, Kona Ice & Wish For Wheels.
And thank you to local media for covering the event too!
Thank you to all the vendors, community partners, kids and families who helped make the morning fun, successful and nourishing!
