On a crisp December evening, kids at Boston Boys and Girls Club laugh and play. Some study. Some play games and use computers. When dinner is announced, everyone stops what they’re doing and hops into line. Turkey cheese burgers on whole grain buns, milk, potatoes and spiced hot apples, all prepared at Food Bank of the Rockies’ community kitchen, soon fill the tummies of these growing, hungry kids.
It always warms our heart to visit Kids Cafes. Knowing children have nourishing meals after school is so important to help them develop and grow. One in six Colorado kids doesn’t always know where they’ll find their next meal. Thanks to generous support, Food Bank of the Rockies provides an average of 54,000 Kids Cafe meals each month!
Last night, the kids enjoyed their meals and a surprise visit from some special guests bringing holiday cheer. Bellco volunteers, food bank staff and other supporters joined forces to fill handmade holiday stockings with goodies. They visited with the kids during dinner and handed out stockings before the children headed home.
Packing the stockings with candy canes, pencils, stickers, games, stuffed animals and other treats kept the volunteers moving. Experiencing the joy and smiles on the kids faces as they received their stockings and enjoyed the treats brought holiday cheer to all involved.
We’re so thankful for the long-time support from Bellco and so others who help us solve hunger. It takes a generous community to ensure our most vulnerable neighbors are nourished.
In this season of giving, we wish all who support our efforts joyous celebrations. Because you care, families have holiday meals and treats. We hope you know how much we appreciate your support and all you do to make our mission possible! Thank you!
