COVID-19 won’t stop us from nourishing our neighbors!

Volunteer lifting box of food at Mobile Pantry site

Due to the Coronavirus, we anticipate needing to feed double the number of clients than usual for at least three to six months.

Food Bank of the Rockies is working hard to appropriately and safely meet the need before us.

This past week we created an entirely new operational model based on the need to feed as many neighbors in our community as possible – right now and in the weeks and months to come.

Safety is also a priority as we face this pandemic. We launched our first drive-through mobile pantry so that we can keep our staff and volunteers socially distanced while providing food in our community. This model includes food pre-packaged in boxes that volunteers place in the vehicles of clients as they drive through. This will be our new model moving forward during our COVID-19 response.

We also know that students won’t have access to their regular meals and snacks as schools close. We are forming new partnerships to meet the needs of kids. We are working with Food for Thought to provide 3,500 food bags to Denver Public Schools families at 12 sites weekly so families have food to last them through the weekend.

We’re also forming innovative partnerships like that with DispatchHealth so their staff will have emergency food bags in their vehicles to provide to any food insecure clients.

We’ll continue to find other unique partnerships during this response and this would not be possible without your help.

Our community will be recovering from this crisis for a long time. Please share with others how you have partnered with us on this important work. You may consider becoming a monthly donor to sustain our work over the coming months and allow us to use the funds where most needed in the future.

And please be sure to follow us on your favorite social media sites to see photos and updates of your impact: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
