Colorado egg farmers were proud to help the Easter Bunny out again this year. The seven local farms that make up the Colorado Egg Producers (CEP) Association donated more than 335,000 eggs to food banks throughout Colorado to ensure those in need had eggs in time for Easter. Of the total number of eggs, more than 280,000 were given to FBR!

The Easter Bunny made a special appearance at our event last week, entertaining over 50+ children and partner agencies that came to pick up their Easter eggs. The CEP team cooked and served free omelets to all the families, guests and organizations in attendance. Two lucky kiddos also won bicycles from CEP.

“The Colorado Egg Producers Association is honored to team up again with Feeding Colorado in support of Food Bank of the Rockies and other food banks across the state to help feed those in need,” said Jerry Wilkins, president of the Colorado Egg Producers. “As egg farmers, we feel it is important for us to provide eggs year-round. At two eggs per person, our donation will help put high quality, wholesome and fresh eggs on the plates of more than 165,000 Coloradans this Easter.”

Boulder Valley Poultry, Colorado Egg, LLC, Morning Fresh Farms and Sparboe Farms produced and donated farm fresh eggs among four food banks – Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver, Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies in Grand Junction, Weld Food Bank in Greeley and Food Bank for Larimer County. Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies received more than 43,000 eggs and Weld and Larimer Food Banks received nearly 15,000 combined.

FBR’s President, Kevin Seggelke, said “Eggs are an important staple in the American diet, but they are also one of the hardest foods for us to obtain. We would like to thank Colorado egg farmers for this generous, annual gift totaling over a million eggs since our partnership began.  More than a quarter of the families in Colorado do not have enough food to meet their basic needs. This egg donation will certainly be a tremendous help for our neighbors in need.”
