Thanksgiving is right around the corner.
We get lots of calls from people wanting to help us serve Thanksgiving dinner. What some people don’t know about Food Bank of the Rockies is that we don’t actually serve any meals at our warehouse. If you’ve never visited, here’s a fun video to give you and idea of how we feed our community.
Nearly 700 hunger relief partners – soup kitchens, shelters, pantries – help us nourish neighbors facing hunger. Most, including our mobile pantry program, provide food to families so they can make a home-cooked meal with their loved ones. A few partners do serve meals on or near Thanksgiving. You can type your zip code in our pantry locator to find and reach out locations serving your local community.
We encourage you to come volunteer at our warehouse prior to the holiday, or any day we’re open – schedule your volunteer shift here. We need volunteers to help us prepare orders for our partners and mobile pantries, sort food from our grocery rescue program and help us pack grocery boxes for older adults.
If you want to donate, money is best. Because we’re able to provide four meals or five pounds of food with every dollar we receive, your funds are stretcher further when you let us do the “shopping”. If you do have food items to donate, we encourage you to contribute during 9Cares Colorado Shares. We partner with 9news and this food drive is the largest of the year. It’s more efficient to contribute food through this large community drive, rather than trying to host a food drive on your own. Learn more about more about food drives here and visit 9News’ page to learn how you can help.
We are thankful for you! Support from our community means the world to us, and to those who can’t afford a meal, this holiday season and all year long. Thank you!
