Volunteers make Food Bank of the Rockies’ mission possible. Today we celebrated with our partner, King Soopers, as they presented Food Bank of the Rockies’ volunteer, Brad Crowe, with their 2018 Zero Hero award. The award is given annually to a team member, nominated by their peers, who gives back and makes a difference in Kroeger’s Zero Hunger, Zero Waste initiative.
Brad volunteers with his church several times a year at our Dick’s Sporting Goods Park mobile pantry, distributing food to our neighbors in need. “It’s fun helping people receive food. They’re happy and it’s a cool thing to do,” he said.
Brad, a meat department manager, also ensures his department at King Soopers participates in Food Bank of the Rockies’ Grocery Rescue program. The program has grown year after year, thanks to partners like Brad and King Soopers. This year, the program will provide more than 25 million pounds of nourishing food to our community – food that used to be discarded.
When asked what he would share with others who may want to volunteer or contribute, Brad paraphrased one of his favorite quotes, “You never know what it’s like to help someone until you help someone who can’t repay you. It’s a good feeling in my heart.”
District Manager, Melanie Greer said the decision was clear this year. “Brad is a good people person who gives back. His crew at the store loves him. It’s an honor to be associated and working with him.”
Thank you, Brad, for caring about others and volunteering with our mobile pantry. Your kindness is priceless and we’re delighted to congratulate you on this well-deserved award!
If Brad’s story inspires you, please consider giving your time or donating to help us feed our community. Together, we can solve hunger.
