One challenge FBR has faced in years past is reaching rural communities in our service area. Hunger relief agencies are typically established in highly populated locations where they can serve high volumes of people, leaving rural areas underserved. Many folks living on farms and in small towns are in desperate need of food assistance but don’t have the means to travel long distance to the closest food pantry or hunger relief agency. We’ve been working hard at coming up with a plan to start providing service to these people….and with the help of Chase, we’re doing just that!
Last week, our brand new MOBILE PANTRY, donated by our generous friends at Chase, drove to Holyoke, CO to provide lots of options for nutritious food to over 140 eager people! These folks lined up early and were given a box for their family to fill with items of their choice. We loaded our truck with items including canned soup, crackers, yogurt, canned tuna, produce, pasta, bread, frozen meat and more. The mobile pantry will visit Kit Carson – Burlington this week! We couldn’t be happier about the addition of the mobile pantry and the assistance we are now able to offer so many of our neighbors in need.
Thank you to the 26 volunteers from Holyoke and to Phillips County Events Center/Fairgrounds for creating a place to distribute. And a HUGE THANKS again to Chase! We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s generosity and support.
